Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann

23 July 2025

This August, Wexford becomes the beating heart of Ireland’s trad music scene. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2025 lights up the town from 3–10 August, offering visitors a thrilling week packed with competitions, concerts, céilís, and culture.

What is the Fleadh?

The Fleadh Cheoil is the All‑Ireland Festival of Music, organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Think of it as the Olympics of Irish trad music, where thousands of musicians, dancers and singers compete after qualifying through county and provincial heats. It’s the world’s largest traditional Irish music gathering—drawing over half a million people each August.

Launched in 1951 in Mullingar, the Fleadh Cheoil has grown into a beloved national institution, travelling to towns and counties across Ireland over the decades. In keeping with tradition, host locations typically welcome the Fleadh for two consecutive years—so after a spectacular showcase in 2024, Wexford is set to shine once again in 2025.

Why Wexford?

Wexford, a jewel of Ireland’s Ancient East, has proven itself a vibrant cultural hub, being home to the Opera Festival, the National Opera House, and more thriving arts centres.

The 2024 Fleadh welcomed over 650,000 visitors to Wexford, with unforgettable moments including a record-breaking tin whistle ensemble and spectacular headline acts. A dedicated local committee, led by figures such as Paddy Berry and Eddie Taaffe, is now building on that incredible success for 2025.

But the Fleadh is more than just a festival — it’s a celebration of community and culture. From national stage performances to spontaneous street sessions, Wexford’s heart beats to the rhythm of tradition.
