Oíche Chultúir
Every September, Ireland comes alive with creativity, connection and celebration for Culture Night. This all-island event throws open the doors to galleries, theatres, studios and streets, inviting everyone to discover the richness of Irish culture through free events, workshops and performances.

Culture is never fixed – it is fluid, evolving, and constantly shaped by the people who live it.
Oíche Chultúir embraces this broad understanding, showcasing uniqueness and openness across every corner of Irish life. From the arts and heritage to education, hospitality, tourism, health, and even corporate enterprise, the programme reflects the richness and diversity of what culture truly means today.
Is culture the music we share, the stories we pass on, or simply the way we gather together?
For us, culture is about the magic of shared experiences – those moments that stay with you long after the night ends.
It's for everyone! It’s an open invitation to step inside new spaces, try new experiences, and celebrate the culture that surrounds us every day. From families and friends to curious first-timers, seasoned culture-goers, and visitors to Ireland – the night is designed to welcome all.
But it’s also a special opportunity for those who create and shape culture. Local artists, performers, and makers get to share their passions, while businesses, studios, and independent venues can showcase their creativity to new audiences.
From small community art-spaces to national institutions, the spirit of collaboration is what makes Culture Night shine.
Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir began in 2006 as a small but ambitious initiative by Temple Bar Cultural Trust and Dublin City Council, with just 40 venues in Dublin’s Temple Bar opening late and free of charge. The response was so positive that it quickly spread citywide and, by 2008, to other major Irish cities. Within a few short years, towns, regions, Gaeltacht areas and even international cities had joined in, turning Culture Night into a global celebration.
Since then, it has grown into one of the most anticipated nights of the year, marking milestones like its 10th anniversary in 2015 with over 1,500 events, special Centenary celebrations in 2016, and even adapting to a digital-first hybrid model during the pandemic. Today, Culture Night continues to evolve, bringing people together across Ireland and beyond.
