West Cork Bioluminescence Swim & Night Storytelling Experience

As darkness settles over the West Cork coast, the Atlantic reveals one of its most captivating natural displays, bioluminescence, where the water can glow with movement. This guided experience introduces you to both the science and cultural stories behind this rare phenomenon, known in Irish tradition as the “moon of the sea.”

You’ll begin with an introduction to what causes the glowing effect, along with local folklore connected to the ocean and its history. Then, accompanied by experienced guides, you’ll enter shallow coastal waters using safety equipment designed for night swimming.

After your swim, the experience continues back on shore, where a low-lit fire creates the perfect setting for storytelling. Wrapped in blankets with a warm drink, you’ll hear tales of the sea, local life, and the heritage of this unique part of Ireland.
