Arigna Mines are homed in the Arigna Valley. The mines were closed down in 1990 as a work place and re-opened as a historic attraction in 2003.
The preservation of energy was the heart of the idea to the re-opening of the valley. The energy centre offers a unique experience to uncovering the life of the miners back in the 17th century.
The Mining Experience begins underground - straight into the action!
The 45-minute underground tour offers visitors a chance to experience working in some of the narrowest coal seams in the western world. Led by an experienced ex-miner, take in the repetition of dripping water, extreme darkness and chilling temperatures - a powerful insight into their harsh working conditions. Coal extraction methods are demonstrated with lighting and captivating sound effects adding to the authentic task.
Explore the Exhibition Space to uncover local geology and the energy production history.
The Exhibition highlights the concept and running of energy systems stored in the valley - which can be seen from the Energy Centre Building near the wind farms.
The history tour displays ancient documents, equipment and photo evidence of the conditions tracing back 400 years.
