Surfing offers a unique blend of physical challenge, outdoor adventure, and pure enjoyment—making it one of the most rewarding sports around.
Lessons take place on Cross Beach, a wide, west-facing stretch just outside Louisburgh. With no reef, few rocks, and a spacious sandy shallows, it’s an ideal spot for beginners to learn and catch gentle white water waves.
For more advanced surfers on good offshore day Cross beach dishes out some phenomenal conditions.

Surf Rental
Surf rentals are ideal for those with some surfing experience keen to ride the waves at Cross Strand, Co. Mayo — all gear provided, plus safety tips before you hit the surf!
The session lasts 1.5 hours, but allow up to 2 hours overall for check-in, gearing up, and getting in and out of your wetsuit.
Come prepared for all weather.

A surf lesson is ideal for beginners eager to ride the waves, all gear is provided and it is a guided activity.

Equipment
The surfboards, provided by UP, are designed specifically for beginners—lightweight, buoyant, and made from soft foam for safety and ease of use.
5mm SeaSkin wetsuits are provided for warmth, with booties available on request.
