Full Description
Whether you're seeking a picture perfect walking or hiking tour paired with an exciting boat ride along the breathtaking Lakes of Killarney, Deros Tours is the experience for you! Board a coach which will transport you to Kate Kearney's Cottage, from here visitors can discover the Gap of Dunloe also known as Bearna an Choimín, meaning 'gap of the common land'. This narrow mountain pass nestled between Macgillycuddy’s Reeks to the west and Purple Mountain to the east promises a thrilling adventure. The trek spans just under seven miles and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
For a different experience, opt for a Pony & Carriage ride through the Gap. The Gap of Dunloe Ponymen Association offers this service, and it's important to note that Deros Tours assumes no liability for its use. The cost for the driver, pony, and carriage is €35 per person, payable directly to the driver. This ride may be followed by a brief walk.
Nestled within the gap lie five lakes, Coosaun Lough, Black Lake, Cushnavally Lake, Auger Lake, and Black Lough, which are connected by the River Loe. The "Wishing Bridge" spans between the first two lakes, and folklore has it that wishes made on this bridge are bound to come true!
Following lunch at Lord Brandon's cottage, visitors will sail back to town on a boat through Upper, Middle and Lower Lakes of Killarney to the historic Ross Castle. Transportation awaits at the castle for a short trip returning to the heart of Killarney town.
